Again, this is not my first time tasting Arcane rums. In 2021 calendar there were their more aged Arcane Extraroma, but in past I tasted their other rums too. However, they didnt stayed in my mind for long, so lets see how Delicatissime will do.
This rum is from Mauritius and this island is for more than 200 years famous for their sugar cane. So there is no surprise that local rums are ussually distilled from freshly pressed sugar cane juice and that is also valid for Arcane. These rums are distilled from local cane juice on column still and then aged in cask in Grays distillery.
Core range of Arcane consists now of 4 rums (or Rhums which is maybe more fitting) and 3 rum elixirs, called Rhums Arranges. Those are made from Arcane rums and upgraded by fruits and other macerates – Ananas Rôti, Banane Flambée and Vanilles des Îles. Four serious rums starts with white Cane Crush, gold Delicatissime, aged Extraroma and wild scherry wood finish Flamboyance.
Delicatissime is called Grand Gold and it is column rum made from fresh sugar cane juice, then aged in casks. Age is not stated, alcohol has 41 % ABV. Not much more is written.
Nose is immidiately sweet, it is also straightforward. There are two things I smell, candies and coffee. There is also some spices, but the gummy candies basically dominate the the smell.
Taste is quite sweet too, but is little more complex. Gummy candies and coffee has added caramel tones, also spices. It feels sweet, but also freshly cold. Somewhere in background there are hints of honey. Taste is full, and its not soft. As with smell, the gummy candies are the most prominent.
Aftertaste has lots of gelatine and some hard candies. But they are filled with light honey. There are some spices too, and it looks like everything. IT is not sweet, there are hints of dryness and bitterness. That shifts overall tone of this rum from sweetened category.
I cant say i liked this rum. There isnt anything special or nothing of interest. Its quite sweet and simple, with gummy candies forward. Maybe it is not that far from agricole elixirs of this area.
